Okay so I rarey use Illustrator, and have little knowledge of how to properly use gradients. There's that.
I'm trying to add a gradient to the stroke on a circle, but I want it to fade from black to white following the path of the stroke as opposed to starting on the left side of the circle and ending on the right. Know what I mean? So the gradient will essentially start and end in the same place.
How?

the best way is to cheat it, split your circle in half vertically. dp the left one from 0% to 50%, and the right half 100% to 50%.
couldnt work out any other way. but this way looks good.

Oops, I forgot to add text in my haste!
If you're after what I think you are, you have to bodge it by creating your outlined circle, cutting it in two and adding gradients to each semi-circle in such a way that it looks continuous.
