Thanks, I'm in the UK though!...

it's a one eight hundred number so that shouldn't be a problem .. but you could google suicide hotline and get a local number.

I feel I should give more info...
My parents have been separated for a few years, she's been living with a "new guy" for the past three years, and basically it's not working out, and she's pretty miserable about it, even though the split is her decision really. Ugh, it's hard work discussing relationships with your own parents! Basically, she called this morning in a state, crying so much she could barely speak, she's done this a few times recently... but this time she was saying all kinds of crazy things: "...it'd be better if I wasn't around" etc. Saying how my sister and I could both buy bigger houses with the money from inheriting her house etc, pretty weird/horrible. I picked her up and took her out for coffee and a long talk, then back to mine and I cooked us some dinner, then more chat, and then dropped her home
again. She'd perked up loads during the day, had her laughing and telling stories. She felt embarrassed about the call that morning, but still... I dunno... Long emotional day!

do what you did today often, and you don't have to worry a bit!

it's your fault.

get outside help. family is very helpful but there are always constraints. imo.
- blaw0
glad you could help today. nothing like family to let you know you're not alone.
don't be complacent, though. seriously. this is not a subject to be taken lightly, and there are folks that get paid to be smart about stuff like this. get your mom to talk to one of them.

hej thisman,
when my parents gat divorced,
my father was also very depressed and he was doing nothing anymore, just lying in th e couch and sayinh he's gonna end it all, best thing is to be there for them and let them show there still a lot of nice things..five years later he is happily retired and doing long bike rides with his new gf.the best to you.

One thing with people who want to kill themselves is not necessarily to look for the mood they are in, although being happy is a good thing it isn't necessarily an indication of their mental health.
Their outlook on their life is the important bit. Outlook describes much more than if they are happy or sad - keep a close watch on her.
My sister-in-law has had depression for many years, and only in the last two has come out of it a lot.
Anyway - call that hotline - whatever the number :) I hope that things go well with your mum.

You may have already considored it - but what about your local GP?
give them a call - depending on what your doctors like they can often be very very helpful indeed.Hope it goes well.

how terrible. yes call your GP, you shouldn't have to work out what to do all by yourself, what a heavy responsibility.

I've a few friends with similar problems, unfortunalty they waited until it became a serious problem before they asked for help.
Time is of the essence - you gotta nip these things in the bud.
