i think youre prolly overthinking it.
But i know aht you mean by it looking to tight then too loose.
i dont think the kerning is the issue for me. The "ball" serif on the A just draws my eye in like crazy.

Is that the whole logo? Or have you just cropped that section of a longer word? Is it's cropped it would help to see the whole thing.
Also if it's going to be used huge as signage then a little extra space can't hurt as from a distance things naturally looked more cramped.
