I have alot of archieves on cd, that were burnt on an older PC and will not read on my MAC drive. So I bought a Lacie 1tb drive to put everything on using my DELL running Windows ME but the drive will not display under My Computer but it shows down near the clock for me to eject it properly... Any help would be appreciated if this isnt going to work Im going to return the TB drive before its too late.

my archieves are on cd, i bought a lacie 1tb drive to put everything off the cds on it, problem is the cds wont read on my powerbook since they were burnt off an older PC and the lacie drive is not coming up in my windows ME machine.

it will show up, but not as a drive because it formatted for mac. You need something like this. Works for me.

Lacie Support is a good place to start...
http://www.lacie.com/support/faq…
Setting Up on Windows ME
Connect the USB drive, power it up and boot the computer. The new device will be found.
Right click on My Computer, go to Properties and select Device Manager.
Open Disk Drives.
Right click on the new drive, select Properties and select the Settings tab.
Remove the check from INT 13.
Check Removable and assign a drive letter. Click on OK.
Restart the computer.
Open My Computer, right click on the drive and format.

OK, I Got the files pulled off on my PC now Im taking this back to my MAC and its not Reading the Drive Any Tips that dont involve formatting ???

Yeah, skip the whol lacie process, and plug a ethernet cable from your PC to your mac. Go into sharing in prefrences and flick on windows sharing. Your pc should appear as a network share ina few seconds. Your gonna have issues with that drive working properley between a windows pc and a mac no matter what you do, just use it moving forward so you dont have to deal with this again...

Theres a few reasons that wont work.
1. Not enough HD space on mac for what im transfering.
2. Im running ME on windows and it has issues connecting to the mac
3. No Ethernet Card in PC its been a non internet connected workstation since 2001.But its dying so i need to pull data off cds that wont read on my mac.

I ha dtwo 1tb Lacies, both broke down, it took £2000 and 4 months to get my data back..
nightmare.
Other than disk recovery in OSX or a piece of software called dtatresucue- which is really good, (and I see you are using a Dell) I'm sorry cant offer any help except dont by the Big Disk Lacies, the Raid 0 versions are more than a problem, especially if you are trying to recover data..
good luck..

in order for lacies to work with mac and pc, they have to be formatted for pc first, then they will show up on mac and pc desktops... i don't know what you can do other than reformatt. is the problem solved?

I formatted it for my PC first and i transfered all the data to it hours of cd - HD transfer and now its not showing up on my mac desktop

Windows ME is not a real OS. I would ditch that asap.

traut- off subject, but did you get my email from earlier this week?
- madirish0
yeah, to be honest reading this i though ME was the source of all the issues from the beginning.
that is probably the worst OS ever made. i would not doubt it is causing your issues seeing as that is what you formated the external with.

Well the whole computer is on its way out, i dont have another OS to put on the system, i just have 1000's of cds that i need to get backed up and they wont read in my mac.
* BARBtastic. About the Torrents yes but I havent found what I was looking for yet.
