Hello boys and girls, I need some ideas from stuff out there... I know intranets are custom to the nature of the business, but i think that there are certainly some common things you find on most intranet sites right?, can you please post the ones of your work places.. blur out the logo if you like - be kind to post screenshots or something thanks in advance. help a bro out.

i think it's a give that most intranets suck. they all need to be redesigned but the company never has time.
kinda like redesigning your own website.

I am currently working on a Intranet for a large company (8000 users)...cant really show you anything...but there a lot you can do with an Intranet...Starting with - User motivation to use the intanet you can add personal functions, like weather and news areas, forum, chat and access to external mail... because intranet are content based portals it´s becomming quite common the use of Metaphors ( e.g. a citie oran airport), using the different spaces of a location, for the different areas of the site....this way you take the heavy weight content seem so heavy...following me?
Try to get users suggestions...its very importat that intranets satisfy every single user, considering every user is part of the company, so cant be left unhappy, unlike a public external website...where everything is measured is general statistics... if you need any extra help, email me, I work a lot with intranets...

Intranet at my old place of work had the following features:
- Internal Telephone Extentions
- External Telephone Numbers for all Company sites
- Current Vacanies
- News
- Forms (Sick Forms, Annual Leave Application Forms)
- Items for sale (you can add your own if you are an employee).

Oh, and a series of policy documents (PDFs) on issues such as maternity leave, IT Equipment Usage etc.

My entire job revolves around continually updating all the information on the Government of Justice's intranet. It's interesting because you get to know the inside of the company, but, like other members have said, intranets usually look shitty.
Make us proud and go design a nice one.

about 99% of the time it's not really a good idea to post a link to a private Intranet- that's kind of the point. ; )
i have designed several for user base of 5 people, up to say 500 people. they are all unique and IMO this is a time when a budget for solid, critical discovery phase pays off in spades.

sometimes intranet are accessable from outside, but commonly they are restricted to inside ip addresses only.
are you just looking for screenshots of interfaces?

I actually work on a large company's intranet. Whatever is accessible outside the company (with limited access), is called extranet here.
I have no way of posting screenshots, I'm not even sure if I'm allowed to.

i think he is just trying to see interface examples. commonly you blur out all sensitive data.

Thanks for the clarification -> Idww to everyone... I was thinking my explanation of what i needed was clear enough.. I didnt expect folks to give me access to their intranets or post sensitive data.. just interface ideas and general place ment of content..... some reply were actually helpful.. others i was like ahh fugettabout-it I am going to just surf till the end of the web till i find something.
