One thing that jumps out at me is that "September 30" is not in the same font as the rest of the white background ribbon text.

yes that is the to do list and i've just spotted a typo too. "availabable"
- flavorful0
Also, why are some letters black and others white in "Scarborough"?
And is that a ship the speakers are supposed to be on?
Speakers don't really jump out as folk to me.
For the most part I like it buddy.
- chossy0
sort your folk out but keep availabable :D

Maybe rite align the mid-text so that the -p and -g, aren't cut off?
- version30
are you going to color it in?
looks like something i'd give a 3 yr old to play with a dinner
i like it don't get me wrong, it just has that "color me in" feel to it
so if you are going to color it, maybe use a craytexture and go out of the lines a bit, with the right colors that could look pretty cool
get rid of the "font" and keep it all hand written
the text fucks it for me
- flavorful0
Well justify the first few lines, I think you know what I mean.
- 899prod0
some black some white? no reason.
more a rowing boat than a ship i'm not that happy with it.
as for the speakers concept, was having trouble drawing a giant beard and cardigan. or something. no really i had my doubts but....

v4: its for a cheapo photocopier job so its stays b+w. and do you mean hand write all the details or just the crappy date bit?
flav: no what you mean but was playing with the idea that the flags are in front of the rest ??
- flavorful0
v4 is always onto something.
scrap the speakers, use the space to allow for more handwriting with everything?
Maybe hand draw some guitars and ... bongos? What the hell is folk music.
A sitar?
- 899prod0
"What the hell is folk music."
depends who you ask
- Rand0
yes I agree it should be all handwritten
- 899prod0
i'm quite attached to the boat but i can see the no picture all text version in me head and it looks good.
might put the line up in handwritten and the small-print bits keep in type....
v4 killed my boat
- version30
yes I agree it should be all handwritten

(Sep 13 06, 14:06)that's what I meant
"all"
- 899prod0
oh it wasn;t v4 who said scrap the boat...

Loose the speakers, remember when Dylan went electric? It pissed people off.
Loose the set type, it totally fucks over the lovely irregularities of the hand stuff. Plus what makes folk folk is the tradition involved in it, and that typeface ain't traditional.
I would say think more whimsical. Mermaids. Anyways, you're gonna hate that idea.
I don't see the boat.
Make it more complex.

Lose the 'font'. Or, at least, choose a better one.
Define a logic for there being black AND white letters in Scarborough - or, just keep them one colour.
The boat thing:
It doesn't leap out, y'know? I can see it after I've furrowed my brow, but that'd be too late if it was a poster. I also don't quite understand why you've only gone for massive Dub-worthy bassdrums instead of 'Cardigans and Beards'. I'm sure if you added in some further detail or flourish it'd be more congruous (maybe make the speakers wear sweaters? ;) Or how about some van Gogh Starry Night stars or othersuch hand drawn detailing (folk/hippy flourishes and swirls - christ, even ..*shudder*.. music notes?)?I'd also like to see some ripply crosshatching on the keel of the boat - it'd be dark under there, behind the moonlight in the cold North Sea water, wouldn't it?
All that said - I do like where it's going, the handwritten text, the keel and moon and banners are all lovely - it's just not quite finished yet.
Good Luck!

er.. I meant 'Starry Night Over the Rhone'-type stars and flourishes, and that I do like the speakers on the boat - just that they need to be folk'd up a little.
Maybe stick a Breton Cap on one and a pip and fiddle on another?
Or, you could go down this route and mashup the Scarborough folk and gay scene?
