i agree, you have to get used to it. But now, it works fine for me...

It's personal preference, sair. For me, the mb pro keyboard is toy-like and is one of reasons I didn't buy it. The small 13.3 mb's keyboard is great - might take a short while to get used to, but is actually spaced just like a 'regular' keyboard and has a great feel.

ah. what do you think of the keyboards on the macbooks? i think they r horrible, it's like calculator keys, yuk. and that alone i think is goin to make me go for a mbp.

Asustek and Quanta make the macbooks. Apple is reportedly talking to Foxconn too, due to high demand.
Forget the core2duo, I'd rather they finally gave the 15.4 a nice keyboard :)

i'm rocking a PC Asus laptop. It's magic. (these are the guys that make Macbooks btw).

Oh new MBPs have been a topic of discussion on rumor forums for months now. With the release of the Intel Core 2 Duo in the iMacs some people speculate they'll Core 2 chipped MBP sometime this month since the iMacs got them.
Who really knows besides Apple execs?
If not at the Apple Expo in Paris or the SF event, I'll prolly cave and get one of the current ones.

Well that's true, but the macbook is slower than my old ibook G4....
Isn't it osx-specific? I always thought it was a tad less responsive than xp.
my black macbook is kinda slow... grrrrrrrrr

(Sep 11 06, 06:38)Apple is hosting a media event on Tuesday in San Francisco.
But I seriously doubt it will have anything to do with macbooks.
They'll be introducing the new movie store and possibly a new ipod.

Haha! RAM in modern video cards is used mostly for handling textures for 3D games. The 32mb matrox G450 DH I use at work is absolutely all is needed to run all non-3d graphic suites. I would get a new card in no time if I asked for one, but I don't see why I would want to do that.
Intel 950 handles 3D much better than this ancient card, so most people's worries are much exaggerated.

I am holding out to see if new MBPs are being released this Tuesday.
Good luck!

A 32mb matrox card is pretty ancient!! Yikes!!! I don't think I could have used that 6 years ago.
I've got a Dell M90 on order. Can't wait. But I am spending a ton, too (512mb Quadro card, etc., etc).
I'd go with a Dell 1705 or 1505. You won't find a better deal for the cash.

check out Acer Laptops.
i got one a few months ago for just below a grand.
http://www.shopacer.co.uk/sess/u…
check out that SPEC for the PRICE!
Ram expandable to 4 gig which is rare.
Its been well admired for its look and specifications/price by programmers at work and by the guy who supplies work with macs.
i did a bit of research into the brand before i got it. one of the programmers at work had also told me that they weer a brand thats been around for years and he's never heard anything bad about them.
id reccomend it to anyone looking for a good sturdy laptop with high spec and wanting to get it all for a decent price

Some alienware have bottom air exhaust - no direct lap placement with those.
As for intel GMA in macbooks - I don't think it'd affect anything else from 3D apps.
I have used a 16mb matrox card for work until a year ago, and now have an old 32mb one for a hi-res dual monitor setup. No problems whatsoever, but I don't do 3D.
Intel chip supports 3D features of OSX and Vista, so no worries here. It's good to max out the ram, but that goes to any laptop now.

I've been using pc's for over 10 years now, I've had more than my fair share of technical dificulties.... but my powerbook has never let me down. quite the opposite, its saved my life when the pc decides to act up!
Apple = proffesional
havent used the macbook's yet, buyt i tell you that its on the top of my shopping list.

Alot of ppl have told me macbooks are no good.

(Sep 10 06, 15:44)I think one thing to consider is the Macbooks have the Intel GMA vid card which I believe is built right onto the motherboard and not a true GPU. So I imagine (not having one) that running 3D apps and graphics intense programs may suffer a bit.
I am holding out to see if new MBPs are being released this Tuesday.
Good luck!
