Anyone out there know of any good ascii programmes that are available for free download? I have tried a couple and they just dont cut the mustard. I want to be able to patse an image into an ascii generator and have the possible option of the image comprising only of a specified character, like an A for example.
Does that make sense?
Hope someone can help...Cheers

umm but that would just look like a page of a's then, the point of ascii is that it uses the different characters to create tonal differences.

not if you use colour. i used one like that a while ago but can't remember the site. i think i got there via google.

that's true

only half true. different chars gives higher contrast imo. with color you have to get the font size to 3, 4px to see more complex shapes.

(Sep 10 06, 07:08)Fair point.
Thing is i am looking to replicate images using various sized/spced dots and thought that a certain version of an ascii programme might enable me to do this. Halftoning would help but i just had it in my head that ascii was the way forward for this?

Oops, a bit keen there!
You can download the source to that web as php and run it locally, if you wish.
