Moral Dilemma

One of my friends and co-workers has been working on a project with a dev team to create the UI for some software. It has been an arduous process on both sides. She doesn't like the working style of the team and they haven't been happy with the design.
During peer reviews I would make suggestions but would hold back because I don't want to come off sounding art directorish but I havne't liked it too much either. But its her deal, I have my own projects.
Until now. Our manager has approached me because both sides a fed up with each other and the stakeholders will review on Monday. As such he wants to know if I can make a skin in response to the coments we've received this weekend. I can, and I can probably get the dev team and stakeholders to buy into the design too with some relatively minor updates.
The question is: am I betraying my friend? Like I said, both sides are fed up and our manager asked me to pitch in. I don' t have a choice but will she see my efforts as help or as undermining her efforts?

sometimes it's just a bad mix and another party is best suited for the job.
also, it's your boss telling you to do it. it's not like you couldn't find anything better to do.
talk to her about it. unless she's an NTer, in which case you've asked in the right place.

do what is best for you.
if it would be to your advantage to do it and would put in good favour with your boss then DO IT!
if it wouldn't put you in good favour with your boss or if you are already in good favour with your boss or have too much going on then DON"T DO IT!
if your friend gets mad, tell her that your boss asked you to do it
if she gets mad, put it back on him! you don't want your company to lose work bc your friend couldn't manage to play nice with others

THis isn't the playground mate - this is business. You do what's best for your client, company, and stakeholders.
If, in your gut, you know what needs to be done and can do it - then do it.

Thanks everyone. I actually just got a call from one of the other designers on the project who asked what was going on. I told him that our manager asked me to make a skin. That was all I knew. Seemed kinda put off but its what I have to do. Thanks again.
