Much of it is barely catching up to OSX like "gadgets (widgets)" and "instant search (spotlight)." I like the fact that you can shut it down and instantly turn it on (no boot up), but overall it's just very similar to features already in OSX.
It'll be huge compared to XP though.

they can't even get vista off the ground, and before its targeted release next spring, it will probably be renamed a few more times.
im waiting for a google OS

I think I have come to like XP better than OSX.

for me the difference is clear, I haven´t really spent that many time in the Vista beta, neither is this beta version obviously the final, but in the front end, it looks and behaves much like the MACOS X, a rip off of OS X i should say...its also clear that in the PC platform, the hardware doesn´t allways follows the software, so you get users installing heavy updates and new versions in computers that dont hold the power/weight for the OS, while in the other hand, normally Apple tries harder to have a much healthier balance between the machine and the OS. My experince tells me that MAC OS, since ever is a lot more reliable than Windows... MAC OS forever!

Wouldnt be able to work out the hours mate, but I used windows for probably 8 years of which probably 2 were XP.
If you have a decent machine, you can run XP rather solidly, but it still comes up with the crashes and blue screens etc.
Im just so comfy using OS X. But i really don't feel that strongly about it. I just have fun being a moron on the internet while bored at work.
Use what you like, I like os x.

os x beats windows hands down. Like I say anyone who says other wise hasnt use one, is a gamer or just a plain moron.

(Sep 5 06, 08:18)...and you're basing this opinion on exactly how many hours of xp use?
don't mistake this for an attack, i'm actually curious.

I think I can formulate my own opinion :)

I have my Powerbook and my Windows setup sitting side by side and I do work on both on a day to day basis, I think I can formulate my own opinion :)

Maybe I have just been lucky. But hey os x beats windows hands down. Like I say anyone who says other wise hasnt use one, is a gamer or just a plain moron.

Yeah I'd like to try vista too. I used to have a second machine to run linux and other versions of windows on, it would have been cool try out the beta. Wouldn't want to do that on my main work machine tho. I still think I will be running xp for another year or two.
I think it really comes down to what flavorful said, personal preference. I have had better luck on xp, runs really stable and lets me do all the print/web work that I do without a hitch. I can't speak for Vista since I have not used it but if it operates quite similarly and runs fast I shouldn't be disapointed.
Unfortunately my bad experience on osx comes down to my apparent dodgy Apple system.

I am excited to see what it can do though... but how often has a clone beat the real deal yo? It will be better, at least i hope... but need to see the real thing... no beta 2 or whatever its at.

15" Powerbook G4 1.5 w/ 1 GB of ram, all the latest OS updates. Not dodgy by my standards.
I have had the grey screen error to reboot where everything locks up on 2 to 3 ocaissions.

since Jan 25 02 i might add, and I've got plenty of work to show thanks.

lol@osx 'never ever' crashing.
NegativeSpace
(Sep 5 06, 07:37)Not sure what slow machines or dodgy hardware or bad OS installations you have been running..
I have owned 2 ibook g4's, a powerbook g4 and an imac g5.
None have ever - ever crashed. Now and again photoshop will lock up for 5-10 seconds if Im running a large programme, but without fail it will revive itself.
So yea... get a decent machine.

Not missing a thing mate, thanks to make it clear about the amount of time spent here, thats real work. LOL

I am trying to figure out how OSX marketshare within webdesign community can stay so high with web font issues it has
- browsers have problems displaying characters from outside basic latin charset - weird sizes and weights
- line-heights, font sizes and weights tend to get odd, I mean they look way different on a mac sometimes.
- quartz antialiasing is nice, but try to turn smoothing off and kerning goes wild. It's not only that the system looks better antialiased, but it looks really bad without it. Have you ever seen NT in Safari without font smoothing? That's just crappy. How come it looks good in windows?
The good side of it is probably you can assume people only use it with quartz on.. ;)Don't get me wrong, I am not saying "osx sucks for webdesign" at all, I'm just wondering how they can get away with it. Actually, I hardly notice any complaints from designers/developers.

joyride, are either of those hybrids?
