Does anybody know a good way to get vector halftones without having to auto-trace. Any software or anything. It takes eternity to clean it up if you trace.

you know... you can select an object and then go into one of the menus and choose the option to convert that shape to an exact circle...
... I wonder if you do a trace to a halftone image in illustrator... then ungroup all the 'dots' in the half tone... then select them all.. and choose the option to convert them to the same shape?
I dunno.. just a thought... I figure it may solve your lengthy clean-up process...
... mind you... this is just a theory... I haven't tried it.

checking - I hadn't thought of that though.

actually that created very large ellipses in the large irregulary shaped solid parts. For abstract shapes and gradients it did okay.
