About 3 weeks ago my 53 year old mother made the decision to go cliff diving. She jumped some 100 feet into water landing on her back and breaking 2 vertibre.
Today she had surgery where the doctors removed the bits of broken bone and use balloon to expand the area then filled it with CONCRETE.
Her recovery is expected to take only 1 week now instead of the 1 year previously estimated before this experimental surgery.
Isn't science grand!!!

whoa. a friend of mine is a cervical consultant and also works with artificial bone. he has the stuff in his fridge...it's pretty creepy.
i don't know whether i'd rather have artificial bone in my body, or cadaver bone :|
