Hi all, just wondering if anyone could make recommendations for allowing clients to download files we create for them. We are creating high end 3D work and we need a secure area for our clients to login and download/upload.
Ideally, there will be a solution that integrates with our site, otherwise, a 3rd party web site would do the job.
Anyway currently doing this and I can anyone make any recommendation. As mentioned, security is paramount.
Thanks.

Skype?
it is 128-bit encrypted and is peer-to-peer. might sound hokey, but it works wonderfully for this sort of stuff and i hav used it to move big files w/ clients before.

Love skype but its not the solution I am looking for. I would like an area where the clients can login securely and download files time and time again.
Also, some clients are a bit behind the times and are not fully up on skype.

yeah, i just started to realize that very thing after i posted it. sorry, been away from my clients fro too long now. ;)
i am not aware of any public site like this off hand. i know if i wanted to do this, i would create my own SSL certificate (sign it myself, etc.) and create a page to proved the tarballs, or whatever you will post. the client wouid log in when they enter the URL, agree to the cert. warning (because they know it is you), select the file to download, then sercurly dload it as many times as they wanted.
wouldn't take too long, but i can see the desire to find this already done for you.... ;)

A simple .htaccess to an area of your website where you host the files yourselves for them to download will do the job fine

A simple .htaccess would do, or just conjure some custom CMS code up and have it so only certain members can access certain areas/items.

jevad is right, in your site's hosting control panel you can usually find an option to password protect certain directories....
when your client's visit those theyll get a password popup prompt.

what about something like basecamp? I use it with my clients and it keeps everything organised

Some scripts here that would do the job. I've tried PUMA, it works pretty well, although you will need to do a little work to customise the interface.
