as far as portfolios are concerned, I am tempted to run a one page site but was contimplating the advantages and disadvantages of both that style and a more in depth website ...
i figure the one page is easier to show potential clients work "faster", as opposed to having them clicking links .... but may look unsophisticated
opinions?

Sometimes more is less, sometimes less is more, sometimes less is less, and sometimes more is more, but you never want more more to give you less less. And ideally you want less less to give you more more.

-------------------------You know, I just looked at the thread and totally forgot I started it. Memory like a sieve.
You could do what I did, which is make it so the person visiting the site decides.
A novel solution or just plain indecisive. Oh, I don't know.
