Hey there,
been a while since I showed a portfolio (actual physical one) in an interview, and just wondered what way people show their work?Traditional portfolio case, loose sheets, as a book? And what then for printed samples, to show or not to show?
Cheers!

I have a book that was intended to be updated when need be, yet I haven't done that in quite a while, so I usually bring a small A4 portfolio as well to show new/recent projects..
Rarely do I ever bring printed samples, a couple small books maybe to show any interesting printing techniques, but that's about it...

Is the A4 folio, just a plain ring bound jobbie with sleeves or loose sheets?
Photographs of work or flat prints from pdf/screen shots etc?
Worried cos last folio fell flat and I was up till 4 in the mornin the night before doing it so was so knackered in the interview I didnt make much sense...

Make sure it is clean and consistent, that is the most important. If the work is good it should speak for itself. Loose sheets are good if there are many in the room, that way they can pass it around, on the other hand you may get fingerprints etc on the sheets.

My A4 is a leather portfolio, no rings, just perfect-bound interior...
If you go to my site http://www.blueprintmedia.ca _ portfolio _ editorial _ 25 Samples you can see what my old [first] book looked like. I had a lot of good response from this. It was also made for shipping overseas, thus all the text, to explain the work when I couldn't be there myself...

This thread was going at the same time as my Flash woes, but now they're sorted, anyone else do fancy things with their printed folio? Or whats the best way to show it?

I'm working on building a new book. Handmade so I can mail it or leave it behind. Each spread will be a photo of the piece where it exists, the flat file and some copy.

on a side note with the printed stuff any one show off printed thing in mags? or magazines they have worked for? do they bring the physical magazine?

Good q frost, I dunno cos I wouldnt show most of the stuff I've done for mags especially ads and that.

I usually either just shoot the spreads I would want to show or fake em up, making .eps of spreads and dropping gradients over the gutter to give it a bit of dimension...
Mind you, I've never designed an entire issue of anything that I was proud of so in my case I would never bring the whole mag with me..
