What kind of hosting service would you recommend if you were to develop a project like say "flickr" or any of the web 2.0 sites for that matter.

I was hoping for some serious answers.

http://www.textdrive.com seems like a popular choice among the "2.0" crowd.

i'm looking for a host that can support huge amounts of user-generated data with unlimited bandwidth transfer. Or would it be a better option if i decided to host it myself...
- rasko40
yes and no, depends really.

I'm confused about your request for a host to support 2.0 stuff. If the host supports the language/features your using, you should be good.
You'll want a host that can scale your plan as you grow, eventually going with a dedicated server. Then if your starting to stess that you'll need to load balance your site across multiple servers.
Check out:

could agree with joyride more. you get what you pay for. go with a host who can scale later on when your site ACTUALLY hits it big, but don't overpay initially.
