Alright, so everyone is always asking about where to get shirts printed, but I don't think we ever discuss different types of printing.

Personally, I'm curious about the differences between standard, one color (or 4), solid graphic shirts stuff from threadless.

    Vs.

Solid colors that have what looks like a gradiet in some parts, lighter areas of the same color, like this:

Anyone care to offer some info about this?

Just working on some artwork for shirts for my band, and kind of curious what is involved in the second of the two choices - one color, but lighter and darker areas of it.

    Merci.

you can get a gradient when screenprinting if you use two colours of inks when squeegeeing one screen.
but after youve squeegeed back and forth a couple of times or after one or two tees then the inks will have mixed too much.
so bit of a waste of ink.

i dont know if places that 'do' screenprinting would be happy pissing about like that and would just rather do normal screenprinting for you.

if you want to experiment with stuff then find your local printmakers workshop if there is one. theyl let you come in and do what you like.

gradient effects are achieved through halftones. this can be done with a rip program when you print out films. you can also set your artwork up in that way with certain areas distressed, etc to get a print that fades.
