best super fun mix of the summer.

"Mashup" is only cool if the DJ is doing it with vinyl or CD's in a live mix.
Hell, any schmuk with an iMac could string together a pounding 45 minute mix with a 100+ tracks in it if he's got the library and the musical know how.
And the article is wrong as it says that Hollertronix and 2 Many Dj's pioneered the sound since (and I'm only speaking recently) ZTrip started spinning the wrong tunes together. He's a master at it and he's got the crates of vinyl to back it up!

I have tons of respect for 2manyDjs / Hollertronix & ztrip, what girltalk does can not all be done live with live vinyl + cds, when there are 5 different tracks bring cut together at once i think its genius in a degree, to match and mix temps and genres in the manner he does i dont think any ol' schmuk could do it.

Haha, he is from Pittsburgh, but some kind of Bizarro Pittsburgh as I've never heard of him in town, ever.
As far as Gilt's blanket assumption on the man, I have to say it's completely wrong.
It's a fantastic mix. Yes, anyone can do this technically, anyone can paint a Van Gogh too if they really want to.
I'm not likening Girl Talk to a Van Gogh painting by any stretch, I'm just saying before saying he just throws 100 tracks in a quick 45 minutes, listen to it.
After two previous albums, he is really hitting his stride, and it's superb.

i really expected more of this thread...
in my mind, i was thinking, pillow fights, ice cream and lesbians.
=(

Well I'll make sure and give him a proper listen.
And I do retract my blanket statement. That was wrong of me to say that. I've just seen and heard too many people jumping on the 'mashup' bandwagon without any real track knowledge.
But yes, i'll go back and give it a proper listen. Didn't mean to piss in the thread!

gilt, thanks, he knows his music and is really good as his craft as flavorful said he has hit his stride. also he now lives in pittsburgh before he was doing a pittsburgh + cleveland split with ma & pa, i think.

No pissing in the thread was taken buddy. I agree wholeheartedly that if a mash-up, or even a remix isn't done properly, it's wack as fuck.
This however is not wack.
We had a thread awhile back about the Gnarls Biggie album, which I thought was complete trash.
Complete and utter trash, just taking acapellas and placing them over instrumentals seemingly hoping they just work.
That's not good.
This is nothing like that. :D
