i am tired of getting paid months after completion. what do you do?
- e-pill0
on a freelance the longest i have waited was 11 months.

it's a joke isn't it!?
Clients demand you work your arse off on a project, constantly demanding shit left, right and centre. Then the second you finish the work and slap in an invoice they go all quiet. No response to emails, calls get diverted, that kind of thing.
I am seriously starting to consider charging in stages for my freelance work from now on. First stage sign off and i want paying mo fo!!

wow. is that legal? i thought 6 mons was bad...

how long is too long to get laid?

• make sure you send invoices with stipulations on how many days the client has to pay and if late penalties apply
• follow lates with invoices reflecting the penalty charge
• after 3 invoices threaten with legal action (if it's worth it)
• collect at least 50% up front, so if you get screwed, at least you're not walking with nothing.

sometimes you just have to wait ages to get laid. then when it happens, it's over with so quickly.
There should be a law against that!!

yo Point 5! what's the penalty charge?
- Point50
that's up to you. I'd say tack on anywhere from 5%-10%. You don't want to smack em with a ridiculous percentage for being a month late, but at the same time a 2% charge won't be shit to them most likely so they'll probably sit on it the same as if there were no charge.
Just enough to let em know they need to pay you now.

ya, maybe i'll do that from now on... should the pinalty apply after one month or two? thanks Point 5.
- e-pill0
after 45 days a penalty should be given.
- spendogg0
45 days late = 8%
90 days late = 16%etc.

i always and i stress ALWAYS get half up front and then the other half when i deliver the files, if's that posting them on the web or mailing a disc. your basically retarded if you don't have some sort of fail safe such as this.

ya, i am feeling pretty retarted at this point, thenuge... i think i have trusting personality... i'm learning.

i got burned a few times before I started charging half up front. at first i felt guilty about it, but then quickly thought, why? now i'm getting paid! i've only had two clients bitch about paying it. the way i look it. if they have a problem with it, then they were probably going to stiff me anyways.

(Aug 14 06, 13:54)Yup. It's all about the prenup.

my contract states the payment is due within 14days from the completion of work. also any invoice i sent out has the same note.
usually, i don't have any problem. some clients inform me up front their payment process is slow. when i did some work for the city, i waited 6mo.

there's no reason why they can't pay you half up front. when i buy groceries so i can eat, i have to pay for them before i can take them home.
