"Actor-director Mel Gibson apologized Tuesday for making anti-Semitic remarks during his drunken driving arrest last week, saying the comments were "blurted out in a moment of insanity.""
Um, hasn't all of Mels best acting bits been when his characters were going off the deep end?
Frrrreeeeeeeeeeeddddddoooommmmmm...

Has anyone got a link to actual evidence of him being anti-semitic? From what I could tell, reading about this at the w'end, those accusations where yet to be verified?
Silly bugger.
- paraselene0
i think the passion is all the evidence one needs, nairn.
- kelpie0
come now Paraselene, the passion was only anti-semetic when it was originaly written as a way to incite farmers to kill jews in the middle ages, I'm sure Sir Gibson of Argyll would never have had those kinds of views.
FREEEDOM!!!!!!!!!

Apparently they even pulled out a video camara on him at one point, they say when they got him in a cell he was swinging by the bars like a monkey for 6 hours, maybe a reenactment of the torture scene in lefal weapon 1

Would there be so much noise, if he was dissing French or, say, British?
There are places in the world you can go to jail for being anti-semitic, but not for being anti-czech or anti-dutch.
Anti-americanism is a fashionable must nowadays in many parts of western world. I obviously know the history behind this Jewish sensitivity, but this assymetry doesn't look healthy to me tese days and even seems to propel anti-semitic moods. I've encountered an opinion that Jews amplify the situation because they're comfortable with a victim's position.

indeed, passion is all we need in life, para - but what is that to do with this thread?
ahem... I didn't watch that Christian porn/gore fest.
The impression I got from the shite I was reading at the weekend was that these accusations were 'revenge' for the Passion, which is why I'd like to see a police report or something.
Well, I would if I actually cared - I just didn't want to be party to the internet rumour mill and splurge out whatever it told me someone else might've possibly said.
I've still not forgiven him for Hamlet.

see: nietzsche, resentment culture
just because there's an imbalance doesn't mean that we should institutionalise racism. and just because israel is a nation doesn't mean that judaism isn't also a race and a religion. anti-nationalist sentiment is fine, in my book, because it's a criticism of policy. racism is simple bigotry, so i don't think you can compare slagging the french to slagging jews.
imho.

There is a difference between race and nationality. Opposing the poilicies of Israel is different to opposing the jews.
Obviosuly, Zionsism make this a bit more confusing,

Mel IS God. He can rightly decide which sect he's hating on this week, they are all his children.

Mel IS God.

(Aug 2 06, 03:38)and finally this mad world makes sense.
- KuzII0
oh please, who HASN'T gone into a drunken tirade against the Jews??
- Bottlerocket0
I can't beleive there is this hoo-har about a drunk aussie shooting his mouth off about something he knows nothing about.
Go to the 'walkabout' in london every night of the week and you will see that kind of behaviour in spades.
- kelpie0
lol
- KuzII0
launched! that was the word i was looking for, who hasn't LAUNCHED into a drunken tirade.
- paraselene0
ima launch you out of a cannon, kuz.
- rafalski0
para, bottlerocket - I see the point and agree on the race - something inbred should not be ridculed. Religion is a matter of choice (if we're talking adults) and people's choices are not immune to criticism in my book.
So anyway, had Mel mentioned "Israelis" would that've been a legit political comment?
- KuzII0
ah i was only joking. c'mon, do we really need to use the "//"?
- KuzII0
and the only peple i've railed against whilst drunk are negroes and midgets.
