Rebuilding my portfolio and looking for inexpensive book binding techniques. Hit me up with links, instructions, suggestions.... Thanks

Whenever I was putting my book together, I just picked up some instructional book which had a bunch of inexpensive hand-binding methods. I can't remember the title, but there are a ton of them.

i make a lot of handmade books/portfolios... hit me up on email so i can steer you in the right direction, as it all depends on how you need to present your work.
my physical portfolio is a hinge-topped box custom made to fit 10-15 boards... i switch them out depending on the client i am looking to snag.
whatever you do, don't use those nasty acetate covered binder pages. yech.

I think this is the one I used: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product…
It wasn't the greatest book in the world by any means, but it served its purpose.

I love the word bookbinding, sounds like it should be the name for some depraved sexual act.

like spacedocking?

ha ha.. exactly.

i assume bookbinding would involve many many participants and it would be extremely tense..

..and involve trees or plants.

I always want to bookbind a girl but I can never read her to see if that is what she wants.
So I usually just don't ask and press forward.

most boys like the "bone folder"...

* Gives in ...
What's a 'bone folder'?
I'm wondering if your missing a letter in your sex act, and if so ... I can't see any boy liking this, haha.

i made small mini books to send out and just staple bound them with one of those long swingline staplers. kinkos always has one or they're about $25. i've also done a few zine projects bound with those things that have two prongs that go through holes and bend over... i don't know what they're called, but any office store has them.
if you want to get into sewing them, look up basic pamphlet stitch. its basically a figure 8 through 3 holes. holds it tight and gives it a handmade feel. there are also a bunch of simple japanese binding stitches that you could do.

amen again,
and I'd recommend grommets, if it suits your look. Very durable. Just design your page gutters accordingly.
