That's not wasting your time at all...looks good.
I'd combine some of the wool on the ground into one shape with maybe a few defining lines in them, not a bunch of seperate shapes. Looks too much like popcorn.

the shadow on the letters ... shouldnt they be 'above' rather than as they are 'below' the letters to give a perception of depth to the wool
