anybody know of a resource for the linework that is so common on currencies, stock certificates etc? A la the Bank of New York logo (minus the cropping):

The curves are quite complicated, and I need some decent quality references before I attempt to recreate that texture...
or does anyone know the official term for that type of texture/pattern? My Googling has been fruitless...
thanks

sure there's diffirent ways of achieving it - someone posted this a while back: http://www.computerarts.co.uk/tu…

great, thanks for the link – that tutorial says the linework is called simply 'engraving', but that can't be the only term for this kind of detail work...can it? I'd love to know for future reference...

doh, actually, that tutorial covers the general printed-currency texture, but not the line-based patterns... sometimes they're radial, sometimes they're concentric, sometimes they create a border... very geometric and perfectly repeated...
anybody?

YESS! that's it. looks like a cool little app too.
it looks like it's called "Guilloche"
thanks man

nooo problem! you can export as eps or something too it's pretty wicked.

a lot of it looks spirograph generated... scriptographer has a plugin

excentro has a pretty steep learning curve...but yea you can do pretty crazy crap with it.

yeah, I feel like a moron wading into Excentro with no background, but it's coming around pretty quickly. it'll take time to get some sensitivity down, but it's a great tool.

blastofv have you bought it?

I recently tried to do the same thing. In illustrator I just made some geometrics shapes and used Object>Blend>Make.
Blending one shape to another to create some nice lines.

nice link!
has anyone bought this and used it? $500 is ultra steep.

the demo it exports EPS forever. all it doesn't do is save in the native format. so you don't have to pay anything unless you want to keep working on a file over more than one sitting.

yeah, I just downloaded the demo. I'll ride that for a while, and if a project really calls for it, I'll build the purchase price into my costs.
Nice links above as well – thanks all.

Anyone know any PC app equivalent?
mrpt, I love your thinking - an interesting modern development of the theme.
