howdy,
thinking of doing a long weekend holiday in majorca, but I'm getting mixed feedback abou it. Some say it's a lovely island, some it's crap. But it's a cheap deal, close (me in london) and it sounded pretty exotic at the beginning. I just wanna go there 3 days with the girl and get crispy under the sun and then cool down in the sea. But I want it to be nice. Is it?

Go on, get out there. If you can, stay in Palma: I stayed there last year n the cheap and it's a really nice city. As long as you don't end up staying in a touristy bit full of fat Northern women with their lills out you'll be fine.

i went in april and it was lovely. granted, at that time of year it's more cyclist types than beached whale types, so i imagine i had a rather different experience.
i agree that palma is lovely. there are some wicked new museums and theatres there, and gorgeous food.
if you do want to get out of palma, go to one of the small little local towns rather than the resorts.
soller and pollenca are both really nice.

i need to get a new fucking vocabulary...
'it's lovely'
'really nice'
these fucking british are destroying me.

:)
thanks for this guys. Well, the place I'm looking at staying is Camp De Mar - is that a crappy touristy resort?

never been, myself, but i'd say that, judging from its proximity to the largest golf course on the island, that it probably is quite touristy.
that said, it's sort of equidistant from palma and soller, so if you're getting a good deal and you can get a car, i wouldn't think you'd have trouble escaping the lobster-red masses.
majorca is brilliant for driving and you can get across the island in a matter of hours.

well I live in Mallorca - and I would say that both sides of the coin are true - beautiful island and then there are the shitty parts - like anywhere though isn't it? If you think Mallorca is lots of little Magaluf's or Palma Novas then that is like thinking that England is lots of little Blackpools or Rhylls! know what I mean 'Arry.
Camp de Mar is the other side of Palma to me so my experience is limited - but it's not the sort of place you find your way home by following the drunk tourists asleep on the pavement and the puddles of sick you step over. It is fairly Germanic too (insert towel on sun lounger gag here) but a nice place - if you're into golf then it is bang on - it has a big course
Anyway doesn't matter where you stay - get a motor and see what's about Palma, deia, Valldemossa... the list is very long and the island is only small.
If you want to fight every night then maybe go Magaluf!! - but if you breathtaking views, fantastic food and a warm welcoming environment - you just found it amigo!
DO IT DO IT DO IT!

cool guys, I'll do it. Here's the deals I've seen so far:
Palma Nova
Camp de Mar
Arenal
MagulufWhich would you suggest? To avoid touristy resorts, I'm also thinking of booking a hotel seperately, in a nicer area, but which are the nicer ones?
motor unfortunately won't happen as I've smartly lost my licence!
thanks again!

I was in Majorca a few years ago and got the worst sunburn in my life. The upside was my girlfriend at the time got to rub cream all over my crispy body.

cool, I must remember to do that! Let me take a note...
