Just got home from South of France a couple of weeks ago and on the way home on the highways i noticed the beautiful type they are using for their highway signage, does anybody which type it is?

It looks very Frutiger-ish which I suppose you might expect in france.
I know the swiss use Frutiger, I think the french might too

does look like it a little bit, but still isnt the one... I was thinking something in the lines of DIN, Neutra and Interstate, but I know those aren't the ones either...
The french certainly know their typography...

Yeah it's none of the above mentioned, similar to Transport as well, but still not it...

National highway typefaces are usually custom designs, not based on commercial fonts. So the freebie may be a nice copy, but probably not what the transportation dept. actually uses.
