i'm making these icons for a page. i have 36 layers in this file. is there a way to extract otu the layers into their own files without having to turn one on, save and so on?

you could probably create some sort of an action that copies a layer and pastes in a new document.

i tried that, but i can't figure out how to make it go from one layer to the next without going through the whole thing anyway

That was my first thought...but I dunno if you can apply the action on each layer?
I think it would take more time to figure out how that works...better save all the 36 icons ;)
good luck

you could have done it by now

dunno how big your file is but at a stretch for time, i'd copy and paste the file x 35 times and then delete the layers I don't need. Quicker old-skool style than scratching your head to figure out a robot way to do it. This only works if you have a good machine and your psd isn't so big.

i haven't started this part of it yet, but the file is already set up this way from someone else.
i hardly ever design stuff in photoshop so i thought there might be an action already in there.
