Just wondering, how many of you give a false (or let's say 'wishful' ) address when applying for jobs out of state? If you do, how's that workin' out for you? :) what's your experience with it?
I'm finding it hard to break into other markets, chicago, seattle, etc.. becasue they want to hire *local* designers.
thanks.

I had problems with that too. I finally gave up looking out of state. If you know someone there, maybe use their address, then it's not AS bad as a made up one.

I was thinking about this as well. I just told one place that I'm looking to relocate immediately and have a place to stay while finding an apartmnet.
i think if you're in the position to be flexible and mobile, and you're good, they shouldn't care.

yeah, i just got passed up becuase i was not local. (at least that's what they told me). but i could start using a friend's address. i probably will. just never understood how that usually pans out. is there a good time to let the employer know that you don't really live there? do they ever need to know?

Yeah it's kind of a catch-22. But hopefully you will find someone who wants you. Local or not.
