have any of you guys collaborated with other freelancers on client projects? my friend and i are talking about teaming up so that we can approach and handle larger clients. does anyone have any legal/business/practical advice on collaborating with another designer?

don't do it.

why do you say that, tkmeister? bad experiences?

u should sub-contract em
if you know u can work really well with them then partner up... but be carefeul.. sometimes when business n friendship mix, it can be painful

friends + business = bad

thanks for the advice. i've had some bad experiences working with friends in the past. i guess it's something that every designer goes through at some point.
anybody else have any input?

maybe i should've asked if anyone has had any success working with friends, and if so, how was this feat accomplished?

i had a horrible experience. it's a long story and something i want to erase out of my memory.
it's the mistake you make once and never repeat.
i would only sub contract to designers. so you are in charge and you specify what needs to be done with your creative direction/guidance.
i work with my developer friend who i used to work together in the same office. i know how he does things and he gets done so well. so it works great for both of us. even then, i'll make sure all documentation is in place.
collaboration between two designers usually means one is more capable than the other. or 2 superstar designers doing some cool shit and they don't care about money.

thanks.
i think my situation would be more like what you're describing with your developer friend, tk.
i guess the choices boil down to don't do it or have really good contracts with the other person.
thanks again!
