is suicide by gun friendly fire?

and are you trying to shock us, shame us? yet you use "collateral damage" yourself? On a site like thas that could be anything. What you showed is horror. Your motives may be honorable but you used a cheap trick.
Call collateral damage what it is- state legitimized murder-

On the one hand, I completely, wholly and utterly agree with you - this round more than any previous has really saddened me - the numbers are awful, the laissez faire attitude the 'west' has is truly disgusting- I've lost faith in Israel and I'm hard pushed to think of a greater injustice in the world.
On the other hand..

I got this book from these guys as part payment for their site..
http://www.trolleybooks.com/book…It's pretty dark stuff, and a hard book to look at.
There's an image of an old man crawling on his front, dragging himself accross the ground to fetch his own legs. If that's not bad enough, the photographer, and everyone else for that matter just had to leave him to it.

xenicon, i'm just upset. i'm not trying to shame you. yes collateral damage is state legitimised murder. you must agree that it is a disgusting concept.
The first image is a lebanese girl killed yesterday along with her family when leaving Marwaheen village in a civillian convoy. an israeli pilot bombed the convoy after the israeli army instructed the villagers to evacuate.
The second image is the crater from a Katyusha missile Hizbollah launched into Nazareth yesterday - 2 Israeli-arab children were killed in the attack.

Some days I just hate to be human. man. I just do.
And as fucked up as any conflict is, with all the damage, collateral and otherwise, this current round in the Mideast is just so tiring. Just blow each other up and be done with it. Or learn to play nicely, and stop dragging the rest of the world into your tiny little fight over a small patch of dirt. Insanity all around. I have no sympathy for either side except for the children anymore

please watch this film:

(Jul 20 06, 04:56)I second that. This is the most horrific film I've ever sat through. It's been released on DVD so it's somewhat easier to come by now.

on uk tv theres a program called "tribe" where this guy goes and spends time with tribes of the world.
in the program last week he was staying with an african tribe who live of the land and farm cattle. they are surrounded by other tribes doing the same, some friendly and some not friendly.
They are constantly in conflict with rival tribes for better grazing land.
In years gone by theyl have fought with spears etc, nowadays they are going into neighbouring villages with AK47's and shooting men, women and children. Raping, pillaging and burning the shacks down. They are doing the same as Isreal and Lebanon, yeah?
So why does the rest of the world not give a toss about these tribes but they do give a toss about putting Isreal/Lebanon on the news?
May it be the fact that these tribes have nothing but basic posessions and cattle and not Money, Gold and Oil?

nobody gives a shit about africa

I was amazed at the childish behaviour and attitude of an Israeli rep on News 24 a few days back, I couldnt believe what I was hearing... it was something out of a play ground
..well they did they threw a stone, so were going to throw a bolder and stones back at them....

I think a more appropriate comparison would be that of Mugabe's rule in Zimbabwe.
Random tribes occasionally offing one another is hardly news of worldwide import.
Should we invade Belgium every time they have a child abuse scandal?
(actually, another bad example - we should invade Belgium Full Stop.)

So why does the rest of the world not give a toss about these tribes but they do give a toss about putting Isreal/Lebanon on the news?

(Jul 20 06, 05:15)No one could watch that much news if you highlighted every injustice in the world at 6pm. No one said they didn't care kon.

it's true that some conflicts get more coverage than others tho. i wonder if it's because of the numbers of westerners involved, either historically or the numbers needing to be evacuated?
- moth0
it's the significance for the rest of them world that's dictates the coverage I think.
A small tribe with guns isn't exactly causing "us" headaches.

What is happening in Lebanon is much more important and newsworthy because the battle there is geopolitical, and involves key global players battling for dominance in a vital strategic area of the world.
It is an event that began with the assasination of Hariri and Western pressure to force Syria out of Lebanon, which has resulted in Israel attempting to fill the power vacuum that has been left.
Lebanon was carved out of Syria by the French under the league of nations mandate, and incorporated territory that had been controlled by Damascos for centuries. It was an attempt to create a pro-Western enclave by manufacturing a disproportionately large Christian maronite population. A foothold for France in the Middle East. The five provinces that make up the state have been subject to great power play ever since.
"'The Muslims rule of Lebanon is artificial and easily undermined. A Christian state ought to be set up whose southern borders would be Litani River. Then we'll form an alliance with it." - David Ben-Gurion, first Prime Minister of Israel, 1948

A film depicting imperial cruelty in Ireland 100 years ago is worth some laughs over, a photobook from Chechnya is horrifying..
I'm just trying to learn the logic.
To point out cruelty taking place in the world, be sympathetic with the victims, then at the same time spice up a conflict at your doorstep that's still an open wound..
