Copy/Paste/Reflect (transformation)/Gradient

gradients?
which one exactly?
- nosaj0
Make a white to white gradient with one swatches transparency set to 0.

that sounds like a Flash thing to me - I've always done it by 'screening' a black to white gradient over the reflected object but it's a bit of a fiddle sometimes and doesnae work.

yeah, nope, nothing.
it's a photograph, not a vector.
same rules apply?
do i need to flatten the transparency? 'cause that did nothing...
thanks though.

yeah, that thing I just said doesnae work in Illustrator, do it in Photoshop with a gradient mask.
I think it's kinda dodgy they're using it anyway... their ID's all have shadows directly below them which isn't exactly showing them correctly is it? or as they were intended to be shown?! tsk. Nic ework though, that F1 stuff by Dixon Baxi is lovely.

dewd, in illy, take your object, duplicate it, reflect it and move it down. draw a black to white gradient over the object, select both the gradient and the object, then in your transparency palette, hit the little options arrow, and make transparency mask. that does it every time. i use it so often, i even made an action for it.. hope this helps..

designbum, you're a genius.
that pretty much solves it - nice work!
:)

oh yeah, shucks.. vector transpancy masks are the bees knees.. just glad to spread the love..

designbum - great work. love your illustrator work, amazing.
i was looking for this reflection in illy a while ago and just assumed that the only way to do it was in photoshop, great to know it can be done in illy too, saves alot of time

I'm also diggin the tip. Thanks designbum.

oh yeah, thanks! if you want to start blowing your minds, start copy/pasting all kinds of shit into the opacity mask layer.. you can even put bitmaps in there.. and have multiple shapes in blending modes that are fully editable.. i didn't get it for a while, but then i did and it fricking blew my mind.. illy's most powerful too for sure.. word..

First if you have to ask this question, you are in the erroneous field! Subsequently quit coping trends and following convention. Be the new invention; why not work within the void. Dnastudio.com is the best example of if not the creator of this idea of reflection. Please I must insist you leave this to the professionals.
Thank you for your comprehension.

So are you the new annoying troll guy? Hi, nice to meet you.
- designbum0
Ahahaha!!! SUPER_REAL, I like you.. You're not afraid to say stupid shit. Too many people are timid, but not you, you just get it off your chest. I like that. Saying that DNA invented reflections is like saying the United States invented oppression. And, seriously, there was a time that you didn't know shit, so why not be supportive of people who just want to learn?

silvering has nothing to do with reflections for sure, the idea of relections was surely thought up on the internet and needed adobe to be fully realized
