Is anyone using the MacBook Pro to edit video? How is it? I'm torn between a suped-up G5 and the MacBook Pro. I need to run Final Cut, Motion etc.

From what I have heard, it's quite good. Depends on what you are doing. I wouldn't edit a feature or full frames of digitized 35mm, but it's good.
In Hillman Curtis' recent book on creating short films for the web, I believe he edits exclusively on a Powerbook. And that's a 2-year ago powerbook. So you should be a-ok.

Thanks. That sounds like a good start.
I forgot After Effects. I need to run After Effects too.
Also, I'm not only doing web video. Alot of the output is DVD.

Yes you'll be fine, i've edited HDV on a powerbook (G4 1.5GHz) for a while.
The new apple desktop computers will be introduced in 3 weeks though so you might want to wait before you buy anything.

The Apple programs will run significantly faster on a Macbook Pro than a G5, but I don't think any Adobe app is developed for the Intel chip, so After Effects will be slower. (unless After Effects 7 was developed for Intel(?))

if you can wait til wwdc in august, they might give some info on when they'll start shipping the mbp's w/ the merom chips. if you need it now, definitely upgrade to the 7200rpm hard drive.

I'm on an intel imac and I havent been able to get AE to work. I get an sounnd component error message. I read somewhere that the fix was to revert to quicktime 6.5.2 but Tiger requires qt 7.
Apple Care says its an AE issue. HA!
