beat the shit out of the stupid kids.
and yes, still do it

It was called Flying Poo Bag. Someone would find a plastic bag full of dog shit and we'd chase each other with it and throw it at each other. It almost always ended badly.

snow golf.
ingredients for snow golf:
at least 12" freshly fallen snow
a number of white golf balls
an old 9 ironthe rest basically resembles tackle fetch with the added bonus of mandatory stuffing of snow down your competitors' pants as often as possible.

also mad max tag, which consisted of jt jones and jason sommers chasing jt's younger sister and i through fields of dried hitchikers and thorns.
we were barefoot.
they were on their motocross bikes.
you can also have snow mad max tag, which is as above except through a field of snow and the motocross bikes replaced with snowmobiles. we were still barefoot.

OMG, the best game was Red Ass!
"All you need is a ball and a wall. Tennis balls were the best because they didn't hurt much to catch. Preferable walls were tall and windowless, making it difficult to lose the ball inside a classroom (through a window) or to "roof it," as both of those situations would end the game.
Basically, kid A throws the ball toward the wall. If it falls short, he has to run and touch the wall before kid B hits the wall with the ball, or kid A gets a letter. If it hits the wall but someone else catches it before it hits the ground, kid A gets a letter.
In Red Ass if the letters added up to R-E-D-A-S-S, that unfortunate child would supposedly be pelted by all the other participants. Some other versions involved kids being maimed while they ran to the wall to avoid getting a soon-to-be scarlet letter."

And Freeze Tag and Red Rover were cool too.

capture the flag was fun and so was gym hockey (no ice in the south, ya know)
i remember the good ol days from like 8-12 years old jumping my bike on the "stump jump" - a stump just to the side of the driveway with a nice little angle for launching my huffy.
