I was wondering how many MCs i can duplicate in flash before flash starts to slow down. The MCs will be static images and around 64px x 64px. Can flash 100 or more?

it should be fine. if you do it right. the best way would be to load each image in one by one , rather than all @ once. as they are small images they'll be quick to load and you'll get a nice 'waterfall' effect.

Just an example:
I did this really fast whithout time to consider optimization and stuff. It has about 300 moving movieclips on top of a whole lotta other movieclips. The mask effect in the end is embarrasingly slow! :)

in theory there is a magic number, if memory serves correctly it is 16'000
but depending on what you are asking each clip to do it will slow down way before then..
for example I experimented with this for a while..
http://andrewburnett.com/images/…each of the dots should be added at the rate of 1 per millisecond, so with there being approximately 1000 boxes the whole thing should take like 1 second... well look for yourself it just aint the case ;)
