Oahu has the North Shore which is cool. You can go to the west side and see the poverty stricken Samoan population if you want. I'd stay away from Oahu all together and just chillax in Maui

in wikiki no lie all the locals said 'the duke' bar in the outrigger hotel is the hangout on in wikiki. it just so happened that was the hotel we were staying in.
snorkling in hana uma bay was amazing.
if you're going to go watch the sunrise on top of lookout mountain take a fuckin jacket. the ass hotel dude failed to mention (i should have known anyways) that on top of a mountain, even in hawaii it's cold as bloody hell.
some great small towns and bars up in the northbeach area. TONS of character in some of those places. up by northbeach there is a pizza joint frequented by pro surfers. met some dudes from australia.
from what i understood there isn't much to do as far as work. seemed like wikiki was the only business area on the whole island.
most of all. enjoy yourself and if you're ever on the beach in wikiki do not ever lose sight of your belongings. there are kids on that island who's sole purpose is to act innocent, steal your shit, give it to their parents and they get a dollar for each bag stolen. theivery is fuckin crazy there.

(Jul 11 06, 13:39)yeah. i surfed on the beaches of wikiki though. (south side of island). the waves were only 3-5 feet. on the north shore late in the year they can get up to 15-25 feet in height. you can start surfing by renting a board for $15 a day. or, do what i did and walk a few blocks away from the outrigger hotel, get your nails done at this really small salon and talk to the dude working in there. he's a really good surfer. we struck up a conversation and he and his girlfriend taught my fiance and i how to surf one afternoon. all he charged me was a case of beer.

thanks for the welcome
I feel like an ignorant canadian, got any tips on Hawaii living?
Know any design shops on Oahu?
thanks

I have many tips and thoughts on living in hawaii. First off, get to know people. this place runs soley on the "its not what you know but who you know" mentality. The better your friends the more options that will be open to you.
Be open minded, people here are extremely nice and warm but get stoopid and you are gonna find yourself with some scar's.
As far as design goes, tell me what you are looking for and I can point you in the right direction.
cheers
