I got some jazz music I recorded on a tandberg reel to reel tape recorder many years ago. The machine only has a preamp but i can listen to it thro the headphone socket.
How would I go about ripping it to MP3?
I can plug the headphone socket into my PC input.
All I have musicwise is Winamp Pro and of course Windows Media Player.
Ideas would be welcome

Adobe Audition might do it

thanks shutdown. anyone else?
i've googled and found a few companies offering the service @ £25/hours tape. This is to CD, that being the case I could easily rip the MP3 from this.
But still be interested to know if I could do it myself as I have about 10 old tapes and need to be selective which tracks I choose.

Mmm depends on quality - I have recorded from preamp to the line-in of my sound card - but be VERY careful, I'm not sure exactly what the requirements are of doing this safely, but I know you can blow your sound card if the signal is amplified.

thanks Mojo. I tried some time ago on my daughters disco equipment and blew it up. Haha perhaps I will use a professional service as the cost is not prohibitive. Finding some good services in uk thro google.

I've done similar with most of my record collection, using Sound Forge software.
