I'll be in Romania in a week and I need to see about renting a cell phone so i can get calls. I have never travelled internationally. What options do I have?
I personally have Sprint and I am calling them to find out as well, but does anyone here have any options?

Sprint has international coverage. The rates and roaming vary though.

(Jul 7 06, 09:15)Especially if you go to Rome ... because everywhere you'll be Romeing!
...
For as helpful as I am in some threads, I am utterly useless in others.

Someone should get the Italian Tourism Board together with The B52's.

you probably just need to make sure international roaming is enabled on your account.

Not even a chuckle for the Rome/Roaming joke?
I thought I used it enough in actual life for it to get contrived, but here to?
BAH!

if you have a phone that takes a simm card. (sprint doesn't) but i believe the rest do. you can buy a card with minutes to insert into your phone when you are there. you will have a local # though.

I looked at this but the charges are pretty steep although for quick calls it might be worth it:
hello?
fuck off
OK
byetime elapsed: 15 seconds.
cost: one american dollar

i talked to my provider (verizon) before about renting an international phone while on vacation, and it was ridiculously expensive (something like a $200 security deposit and over $100 a week), so i just got local calling cards and checked voice mail a lot.
or just get a local throwaway phone, but yeah, you'll have a local number.
