I did a search and couldn't find anything on him so I'm starting the official appreciation thread.
He has the best voice I've heard in a long time, I don't get tired of hearing him sing:

Open Mic night at the pub.

you know the story about him, right? working a dead end job in rural maine and woke up to a stephen stills song (treetop?) on the radio and decided never to go to work again and learn to play music...

concrete which pub do you go to? Because if anyone in my pub could sing like that I'd be down there every night.

A tad harsh, maybe.
I just think his sound is a bit cliché.

I think the word you're looking for is timeless.

His story also includes writing his music over several months in a very rural cabin up in maine. then went and recorded the album.
I have always felt he sounds a lot like Joe Cocker, but with a fuller sound...
amazing
