good free font packs?

i'm starting my laptop fresh from the start in terms of my font collection.. and i really dont want to painstakingly download every single font that i come across ever again.
can you guys recommend any good free font packs to get me started? the bigger, or more diverse, the better.

98% of free fonts suck
75% of the good free ones you will never find at all
so the 1/2 of a percent of the free fonts you will find will not be good enough to work professionally from
buy fonts, your clients appreciate it

10 'pro' fonts can run me upwards of $500. somehow, i think free fonts are just a little more viable.

try and buy a font for every job you do... always slip a couple hundred $ on the budget...
