So I heard design programs run rather slow on the new MacBook Pros...please tell me this isn't so...

i know adobe products have to run through an app called rosetta and can't run natively - thus can't take advantage of the intel power.

correct -- programs like photoshop and illustrator at this point will not take full advantage of the intel processor.
that does not mean that it won't in the future. if you already have a powerbook, then it's not worth it to get a macbook pro. but if you don't have a mac (and you want one) it won't hurt to invest in a macbook pro.
