  is there any PC freeware that you can use to take screenshots from a DVD out of windows media player?

  dvd players use a hardware overlay to play the video into, when you take a screenshot in windows you only get to see the colour behind the overlay (pink usually).

  You could use VLC, settings > extended GUI > Image clone.

  This makes a new window that isn't on a hardware layer and thus shows on screen grabs.

  You have to install VideoLanClient from http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ of course, but this is the quickest method I have to hand.

  download Satsuki Decoder pack and use media player classic. u can then save images of certain frames :)
