It doesn't really look efficient.

An Alternative Desktop Interface

i'd use it, it'd be great on the second monitor

Btw, there is a FAQ coming soon that looks like it'll attempt to answer some of your questions.
But I think it's weird that it tries to copy real-life desks (not mine, but other peoples', hehe), since most ppl want to organize their files, not have it messier.

looks like a desktop interface for unorganized slobs.

desktop filing cabinets™
you heard it here first folks

i think it looks cool, but less efficient way accessing your chit.
although it would rock with this:http://mrl.nyu.edu/~jhan/ft...

realy desks are not organized. having piles of things is good:!?!?! no. i think its stupid. like i want to sit there sifting through icons on my desktop to find something.
- jox0
That's not the point - here you have the option of a nicely organized desktop, or a real-world desktop. I myself have an insanely messy desk, papers, magazines, post-it's etc everywhere, but somehow I find my stuff way faster than if I would've had them nicely organized into piles.
Everything takes ages to find after I've cleaned up this pig stine.

see, i need a way to do that with all the shit on my actual desk.

Practical applications for it anyone?

i dunno about practical, but with this
http://www.stardock.com/products…and that tactile interface which allowed you to use hands on a tact pad or a touch screen instead
i think a man could redefine efficient

well... stacking a bunch of files... or having them on top of each other is ineffecient... cuz now you have to unstack them - or move one tile out of the way to see another etc.
The only practical application I can see this being used for is in a game interface - perhaps... a virtual craps table or something similar...
... but not for managing and working.
