Uhm ... I have a NetGear 108.mbps dual something firewall 802.1g.
I've had no problems with it ever.

good speed?

From computer to computer on the same network it's fast (but always not fast enough, heh).
The speeds I get from the cable company are no different than being plugged directly in.
I believe they now have gigabyte local network transfer speed models which would be worth looking into.
Also, I recommend a firewall joint and remember to password protect... I still don't understand people who don't do that.
That's usually the reason why you may get slower speeds ... because people are jacking you.

most brands like netgear, d-link, linksys, etc are pretty much all the same. i would recommend MIMO 802.11g 108mbs routers. there is a new, faster standard 802.11n coming out soon and i think a couple of those routers are out (not sure).
linksys used to have something like speedburst (whatever it was called). it pretty much used more than one channel at a time to deliver data. it worked a little faster than other routers but if your neighbor had a router of the same spectrum, it knocked them out when the linksys was in that channel. so you could be a jerk and get that one if you want a slight speed advantage. i don't know if they had that for the MIMO routers.
anyway, MIMO for now. if you can wait ,get 802.11n.

pproblem with the pre-n is that they require a network card. i have an apple with built in wireless so i do not want to have a card sticking out the side too.
