*scratches head FOR you
--Was recently wondering how many helium balloons it would take to quickly raise a roll of toilet paper into the air, unrolling it as it went higher and higher.
I guess I'm just pretty hip on people watching a big nonstop length of toilet paper float through the sky.
Anyone game for trying this?

It's 2:3 , of grams of helium to grams of movable mass.

Oh... and get strong TP.

is this david blanes new special?

haha you said it, involves just about as much magic as his life does.

I've always wanted to do this with a cassette tape. light. =)

i would much rather suck in the helium and then sing Alvin and the Chipmunks songs...
or Barry White songs

A typical helium balloon can lift 4.5-5 grams of mass, or make for 20 seconds of annoying voice.

I just like the thought of releasing floating contraptions into the sky, so long as they don't interfere with migratory birds.
Local birds can kiss my ass.

"or 20 seconds of annoying voice"
LOL back at ya!

you could just ask someone to tie the toilet paper to the gauge on a standard fagometer, when they are done you can approach - should have a similar effect, if not quicker and higher.

Using multiple balloons, I'd want just enough ballast to the first balloon so that the length of paper (or cassette tape, that's a good thought) stayed close to horizontal from start to finish, save for occasional dips and arcs due to wind current.

the angel soft 2 ply double roll in the hall closet weighs 191 grams according to my trusty dusty postal scale and combine that with mimios info, you will need 38-42 balloons of helium to unroll my toilet paper up into the air
i'm assuming a single roll of 1 ply would require significantly less
- Mimio0
Rasko how much do you weigh?
- mg330
Can you break open a cassette tape and weigh that?
- version30
whats a cassette tape? :P

the spool inside a cassette will only weigha couple of grams and would only require (at most) a couple of large 'standard' balloons, available from party shops etc. I've got one of those indoor r/c helium balloons and it's probably the equivalent of 8 or so large 'standard' balloons and the gondola slung underneath probably weighs about an ounce.
Mayo - if you want to sing like Barry White, try inhaling Nitrous Oxide. As it is heavier than air it lowers the voice's pitch ... and, of course, has the added advantage of being a psychotropic anaesthetic, which adds to the fun..

I'd kind of like to try sticking flashing 'LED throwies' inside large helium balloons and loosing them across the skies of London one night - not very environmentally friendly, of course (and a bit twatty, probably) but it'd be amusing to confuse Norf Londoners with a fleet of nighttime UFOs (Mr. 'Sky Cushion' Rasko, included :)

If you condisder replacing the TP with a small video camera then I'm down.
