if you haven't already, post your question on the apple disussion boards at the apple site. i've had pretty good luck with that place before.
good luck.

remove any 3rd party RAM...start with stock RAM. this messed me up for days.
is it the original install disk? i've seen this happen with install disk dupes.
reboot from install disk, go into disk utility and reformat the disk before trying to install.
most likely a RAM issue though.

how could the ram be stopping the disk install ?

I've had this happen to me when attempting to do a clean instal of Tiger.
My workaround was to do an upgrade instead of a clean install.

yeah i didn't want to believe it would work either...but it did. stripped the screws on the bottom of my powerbook in the process of adding/removing/adding RAM. im sure it'll be fun re-opening that mini too. it did the trick though. possible to install the OS while the mini is opened?

ram can def be an issue, though i've only encountered the problem on older G4 towers

if its new...
- boot off the install disk (hold C)..
- launch disk utility out of the top menu
- completely erase and ZERO all data on the drive (even ne computers should be wiped).
- restart and try the install again.
