not really a one sentence way of how to describe doing this. it's all about how you architect your application. if you architect it in a way that it can take something like an ID or a keyword which can be used as an argument in a function that displays that particular content, then you can just use a GET variable in the URL, write a javascript function to communicate it to flash, flash runs the display function with the argument.
you need to be decently experienced with building flash apps to do this effectively though.
here is an example of how i did it on my site:
http://mechanical-bull.com/index…
http://mechanical-bull.com/index…
http://mechanical-bull.com/index…
it's all the same file, but the keyword provided through the checkIt variable lets the flash app know what project to display.
dunno if this helps, but best of luck getting it to work out for you

Brendan Lynch has done a great job of linking in flash using hashes:

I thing the easiest way to do it is to from the html insert a variable into the flash.
In the embed code write something like:
"yourflash.swf?startpage=page3"This is the same thing as writing "startpage = page3" in the flash.
Then you just do something like this on the start of your flash file:
gotoAndPlay(startpage);
Which would make your flash jump to the label "page3".
Makes sence?

use a little bit of php to pass the get variable from the url string into flash ex http://www.vitaminpictures.tv/in… will take you to the project linked in the url. when you embed your movie into the your page you can add a ? after your swf name with the variables from php. then from there design a function in flash to handle the variables you are sending. if you have any questions dont hesitate to ask!

I didn't really get what you want to do...but as far as i got it, all you want to do is control a flash from a html link...mayeb I'm wrong tho...anyway..

there's a lot of stuff been done with that already. Lookup "Deep linking in flash" on google. I've got some classes which deal with it. Writes to your address bar goes to a section, works with the back button etc, but they're all at home and I'm at work....
Sorry mate
