So I updated a site, All I did was change the look.
I made the site faster to load,
CSS/XHTML, flash for some galleries but not for content.Today I did a search and the site has moved to #2 in google. How did this happened? I didnt change the content, in fact the first version was made with MS Word.
My only concern is that the site is going to start slipping down the latter due to the change but I really dont know what to do.
I know it was important for the client to keep their site at #1.
Suggestions?

Hey fusionpixel, there are several reasons why it could have happened.
1. The competition could have updated or changed. SEO isn't an exact science (to us users anywho).
2. If you recoded the site and you have a whole lot of code before the content (so say some javascript or something) then this could affect it.
3. Rankings change daily I find, make sure you monitor what it does over a period of time. It could be temporary.
4. Show a link? Maybe there are some things you could improve upon - who knows :) Give us a link. And if you have an old version of the site, post it somewhere and show us that too.

I have just asked a few pwople here and they seem to think it is because of your ongoing halitosis problem.

Hmmm, yes my office agrees 100%
although I think people will agree that I am weird for talking to inanimate objects.

maybe you should've known what you were doing before you updated the site

Yeah, im going to wait a bit and see how it behaves, I saw the other site that is #1 and doesnt seem SEO'ized.
Thanks for the comments.
