so i'm interviewing at a major ad agency next week, for pretty much my ideal position. Are their interviews pretty different than design shops ?? anything in particular i can expect, besides the unexpected?

Hot chicks, larger budgets, more $$. But...
Lame projects and cleaning corn out of your teeth from kissing so much account ass + client ass.

much like the british upper classes

you probably will be working with one account/client and do all work for them.
they want you to be a specialist.
they want more work from you, meaning say good buy to having a life. heh.some people enjoy that other hates it. =oP

get ready to make a small amount of money for a tremendous amount of work.
get ready to go to huge industry parties, where you can see lots of art directors on coke.
get ready to pull lots of allnighters, trying to come up with a new and fresh look for a detergent, when they've all been done before...
get ready for major politics with the other junior art-directors..
there's more catty infighting in a big ad agency than you can imagine...
get ready to have the credit you rightfully deserve taken from you by unqualified AD's and CDs that are jackoffs...hahaha..
aside from all that cynical stuff, it is actually a ton of fun...
hard work tho..you'll work longer and harder than you can imagine...the interview should be standard, they'll see your book, they'll ask their questions, but mainly they'll want to scope you out, and see if you're an ok guy....you'll be spending a shit load of time with them, so no one wants to hire a jerk..
best of luck dude..break a leg and let us know how it went
:)

advertising is a pass the buck system. the guy at the top gets all the credit when it goes well. everybody probably gets the blame when it goes to shit. designers eat shit upon either way.
it'd be cool for clients to request particular designers and art directors. need to be tuned into who makes what
