We have a client which does business in China and they want their website to reach audiences there. Dose anyone have experience with this sort of thing?
I know it's a bit of a sticky situation. Do you have to contact a specific agency or government office about making sure your site isn't blocked since the internet and other media is controlled by the state?

China doesn't just block websites on a random whim mate - unless it is pro-democracy/taiwan, or anti-china...you will be fine

Yes I know that, but I was wondering if it needs to be reviewed or anything like that or if people in mainland China can just access it.

There is no review process that I know of...think that's partly why China's censorship is so powerful b/c they don't have a documented list of censored words/sites.

Ok, but are their any concrete restrictions? Can the site be hosted in the States or does it need to be hosted in China? I don't know anything about this. We are hoping we can just build the damn thing and have them see it.

Lol, so basically the only pain in the ass about this should be getting the .cn domain name?
The company has a permanent office in China and has for a while so that part shouldn't be an issue.

yeah sorry a Top Level Domain and if you have an office over there it should be good unless anti establishment :)

It's an architect. I don't think it will be a problem.
