Can masks act as buttons and have a mouse over tweening effect?

something in the mask can be a button... what is a mouse over tweening effect? I find it easiest to group the stuff that is going to be masked as a movieclip

I have a picture that the mask obscures some of. I want to mouseover and reveal the entire picture.
Im not really actionscript savvy though..

i would create a movie clip of the mask revealing the picture. then i would make another movie clip button that states on rollover goto and play (mask movie clip) i ll try and find some thing i did very similar and sent it to you...
