We launched a new version of Flickr, too.

you work at flickr?
Just been playing around with it - I really like the new organization

honestly I think the version they currently had up was well done... this new one is crap...
I like the overlay though showing a walkthrough. I am definitely going to use that approach on new sites that need a help section.

just curious, any of you programmers know whats behind the "tour" - is it dhtml?

yep, search is exactly like Google.
The information on the portal is better organized now. Wonder when Safari will be supported..

Interesting that they've done away with 800x600 users.

I want to work at Flickr :(

nice site, just needs more duck sauce

Seems that they added a bunch of new 'wiz bang' stuff that doesn't really add to the usability, but will attract more users.
eg - the rollover panel that shows you have 9 emails even if you do not have a yahoo address.
More load time, same function....yahoo should really be affecting changes that make it more usable. If this keeps up they are headed down the same road as AOL.

I will add that I am very excited to see their upcoming upgrade to their email interface, drag and drop functions and it needs a flash plug-in to work.

yahoo looks the same on my mac.
it's completely different when i use the pc behind me.

same here

It works for me on the Mac, via FireFox rather than Safari.
I presume that their detector probably doesn't like it.
I don't use Safari that often, but it's surprising how many sites I use don't look as normal as it does using FireFox or even the forbidden IE.

Sign up for the email beta. The option should be made present to you when you log in.
The wait time is very short.
Additionally, I'm sure that the browser compatibility problem is being addressed. We've got some of the best cross-browser people in the world.
I suppose this place is as good as any other to advertise that Yahoo is looking for Flash masters to fill our new Flash engineering team.
Holler if you think you've got the chops.

I like how the tour works...looks like some CSS magic going on there - not sure how they got the transparency working so well - but I am guessing its a transparent GIF or PNG?
I'm not sure I like the left nav, but I suppose I'll get used to it.

Moth - I noticed the 1024 design. how many big players have to follow suit before the rest of us can do away with low res users...
